I built this safety monitor for my observatory. It closes the roof automatically whenever certain emergency conditions happen. Emergency conditions include: rain detected on one of two different sensors at the observatory, rain at a nearby weather station, a loss of internet WiFi signal, loss of power, or loss of connection to the external internet, loss of connection to the telescope control software.
I developed the code with a little AI assistance.The code is available on github here: It runs on a ESP32, It detects that the roof is closed with a reed relay. There is a relay module that creates the pulse to open/close the roof. It also has a web server that is used to issue commands.
